I think that they require viewers to suspend their disbelief a little too much compared to other types of films. I liked this one because the acting was more convincing than other films in its genre, and except for a few scenes, the paranormal activity was quite believable.
I watched this movie alone in my study at 3 am and found myself glancing over my shoulder every now and then to make sure no demons were sneaking up on me.
Fortunately, I didn't go to bed till the sun came up; otherwise, I would have been sleeping with one eye open all night, wrapped up like a mummy in my blanket.
For maximum effect, watch this in the dark, but not alone I love this movie. This and part 2 scared the pants off me worse than any movie I've ever seen.
My teen age daughter likes this but thinks it's too slow paced and not gory enough. To me, that's part of what makes it great. It just seems so real!
And it slowly builds up to the really cool ending. I'm a horror buff and I've seen tons of horror movies that are I really like, but none of them ever left me afraid to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night with the lights off like this and part 2.
While the series kind of loses it in later installments part 3 is still decent, 4 slightly below that , the original is amazing. If you're looking for blood, gore, and constant jump scares, this isn't for you.
If you like a slow build and it does build and footage that legitimately looks real, this is for you. Oh man where to begin with this one Haha even though fake footage style of film-making was already a thing before this movie, it was because of this film the genre really made a comeback and proved that with a solid script and not a huge budget you can still get a phenomenal experience from a horror movie.
The performances of the stars here were solid enough to make me care for them and their actions throughout the movie were realistic and grounded completely off the mold for movies of this genre which effectively sold the idea of "this could be any of us in our homes" that much better and gave a lot of realism and a breath of fresh air to the horror genre that wasn't having the best of times.
One person found this helpful. Paranormal Activity is a found footage horror flick that follows the story about a couple who move into their new house but are suddenly terrorized by a dreadful supernatural force.
Paranormal Activity is one of those movies that you'll either love or hate. The movie was a cult phenomenon and terrified audiences back in As for reviewers, like myself, and critics alike, the opinions towards this movie is very divided.
Because it's a found footage movie, mixed reactions will definitely be the end result. Paranormal Activity, for me anyway, I thought it was good.
On one hand, the movie is well-made, I like how there is no background music and that it's all very quiet. To me, that gave me a very relentless and realistic feel and some of the scares and the atmosphere are effective because if it.
The movie does have some irritating jump scares but not a lot to make me annoyed. The big flaw the movie suffers from that did bug me about the movie is that the characters are not that well developed and as a result, I don't really feel anything for the characters.
Overall, Paranormal Activity is a good movie to watch if you are in the mood for an entertaining and relatively creepy experience! Though the "found footage" gimmick is usually not my thing, here it works rather nicely.
It helps to box in the action occurring at this unrealistically posh home. A mounting sense of unease leads the characters to their ultimate respective ends.
They seem cut off from the rest of the world although they both recognize something needs to be done. Their collective failure to take action - they don't understand each other - looks to me like a distortion of reality.
If only they left the damn house Having the camera on almost constantly helps keep the actors on their toes even if it adds to the audience's claustrophobia.
Overall, well done though the plot could have been richer. See all reviews. Get to Know Us. English Choose a language for shopping.

The climax is deliciously scary, and Peli gets considerable mileage from the simple matter of lights inexplicably going on in another room.
For extended periods here, nothing at all is happening, and believe me, you won't be bored. It's this feeling of vulnerability that Peli's slow-burning supernatural chiller so effectively exploits, fashioning heart-stopping scares out of almost nothing.
Though it never poses a question more abstract than "Where's that scratching sound coming from? Peli is to be congratulated for pulling off such an audacious project, but he needs a sharper sense of timing: The film's pacing is uneven, which weakens the suspense.
Like legendary producer Val Lewton in the '40s, director Oren Peli, who shot Paranormal in seven days in his own home, understands that what's most frightening is what you don't see but merely suggested.
The "found-footage" format and the slowly ratcheting up of the haunting only added to the terror. Truly a genre re-defining moment, the found-footage phenomenon Paranormal Activity is dollar-for-dollar one of the most financially successful movies ever made.
This is a scarily well-made scary little film, although it certainly isn't flawless But the acting is supremely naturalistic and, for such a small-scale project, it does have an amazingly heightened effect.
The terror was raw and real - all the more so because it was so understated. Despite the scares, the film soon becomes repetitive That's a shame, because Paranormal Activity is at times extremely innovative.
The idea may be interesting even if totally unoriginal, while the story is developed well in a careful pace.
Still, the movie feels like a mere silly trick to scare the audience and nothing else, even if it isn't scary or intriguing. Not a monumental piece of work, but it still delivers thrills and never bores.
It's basically pop-out after pop-out. It's incredibly cool watching it with the sound loud and the lights off.
Paranormal Activity is a prime example of how creativity can prevail through budget limitations; this movie is original and downright creepy.
Better than I expected but really I think im over this style of film. More Top Movies Trailers. DC's Legends of Tomorrow: The Crimes of Grindelwald First Reviews: Less Magical than the First.
